Game On!
Well kids, I got all my gear, got hooked up, and am wirelessly accessing the 'net now with no worries at all!
My set-up consists of a Netgear WG511 54 Mbps Wireless PC Card and a Netgear DG824M Wireless ADSL Modem Gateway with 4-port 10/100 Mbps Switch, both of which have performed very well so far!
I configured the ADSL Modem, got the WAP running (with 128-bit WEP) and installed the card in my laptop (ahhh plug and play!) - no worries.
My WAP's SSID is 'Ansible', named after the instantaneous, wireless communications device featured in my favourite book, Ender's Game. Incidentally, other machines/devices on my network are named after characters/elements of the book, including my laptop, which is called Bean, and when I get my new desktop, it will be called Ender.
I've set up my laptop so that when it's in it's bottom half (more info to follow), it's plugged into the ADSL modem directly, via CAT5, which gives better speed, but it's also got wireless available so that as soon as I disconnect it from the base, it switches over to wireless.
I'll post more information about my coverage and stumbling exploits soon!
